The Ellern Mede Centre is a specialised service for young people aged 8-17 with eating disorders. The facility is located in Totteridge, North London. We understand eating disorders to be the expression of major difficulties in self regulation and emotional communication, which present in a physical form. Eating disorders are complex, involuntary and distressing not only to the young person, but to all those close to them. They require a comprehensive response including medical, psychiatric, psychological, social and educational interventions. Central to this is the therapeutic milieu; this is a structured, safe and supportive environment in which staff engage with the distress, problems and strengths of the young person and their family.
