On May 9th the Care Quality Commission made an unannounced inspection at Woodlands Park Care Centre in Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire.  Tasked with finding out whether essential standards of quality and safety were being met, a full assessment was conducted. The findings published this week not only impressed the care regulator but exceeded expectations across the board.

The commission looked at a number of different areas including; the care and welfare of people who use the service, staffing and the nutritional needs of the residents. They found the needs of residents were assessed regularly and their care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way that ensured their safety and welfare.

Feedback around the staff was one of the key areas for praise, observations were made around how gentle and patient they were with residents. The respect and compassion shown by staff was also noted. One resident was quoted 'They always give us the best, admittedly I wasn't very keen on coming at first, but I've never looked back, it's lovely'.

As part of the inspection the commission spoke with relatives of people who were using the service. The management were singled out as a key factor in Woodlands success. Relatives agreed they were approachable, had an open door policy and would meet them any time they had concerns.  One relative came forward and told the commission how well his wife had settled in, he was quoted 'It is a centre of excellence; I would be very surprised if anyone could find any fault with it'.

Hassingham House officially opened its new unit for multiple sclerosis suffers last month. The unit was the idea of Sally Lee who was inspired to create a safe and serene environment for those with the condition as she felt many were missing out. "I could see finances were hitting people hard and I wanted to make a difference. Some of our regular respite clients couldn't afford to come and stay and this broke my heart'.

Hassingham welcomed local press, members of the MS society, residents and the general public to the home for an afternoon of entertainment to mark the occasion. Feedback has been excellent with several articles cropping up in local newspapers. Congratulations to Hassingham and Sally Lee in particular for a job well done.
