Cartoon characters cook up fun in Chigwell for National Care Home Open Day 2015

A cocktail of cartoon characters, including Minnie Mouse, Pocahontas and Merida, greeted visitors at our Chigwell care home when Belmont Lodge Care Centre hosted a barbecue party as part of National Care Home Open Day 2015.

“Residents, families and staff dressed up as their favourite cartoon characters and everyone had a fantastic time. The sun shone, the food was great and the larger-than-life characters added to the happy atmosphere as visitors and residents chatted together,” says manager, Maureen McDonagh.

One of the aims of the UK-wide initiative Care Home Open Day is to build relationships between care home residents, staff and local people, and give people the opportunity to see for themselves the kind of excellent care services available in their area.

“Our care home is very homely and welcoming, and full of friendly, caring, interesting people. We welcome visitors any time, not just on Care Home Open Day, and they will always be greeted warmly. Most people don’t bother about care homes until they have to – and unfortunately, there are lots of misconceptions about residential care – so the National Care Home Open Day has an important role to play,” adds Maureen.
