Anyone from the smaller villages around Norfolk will tell you there is a special sense of community here: a pride, a vibrancy and a warmth. That also sums up life at Hassingham House in the market town of Hingham, a home rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission. Our purpose-built home is accessible throughout, with landscaped gardens we use to the full. Inside, our lounges and dining room have been refreshed in a style inspired by hygge, the Danish idea of cosiness and contentment found in simple comforts and good company.
Our long-serving nursing and care team is on hand 24 hours a day, happy to help with a smile and a cheery word, from company and support with daily care to round-the-clock nursing. We provide nursing care for people aged 65 and over, including those living with dementia, and neurological care for adults from the age of 30, as well as respite and recuperative stays.
The home has 46 spacious single bedrooms, 44 with an en suite, and residents are encouraged to bring their own furnishings and treasured belongings so their room feels like theirs. Whether someone joins us for a short stay or a long-term one, every detail is shaped around the individual. We look forward to welcoming you to Hassingham House.
Our registered nurses and carers are here 24 hours a day. We provide nursing care for people aged 65 and over with complex medical needs, along with dementia care, respite and recuperative stays, and palliative and end of life care. Where we have a room available, we can also help with crisis and emergency admissions. Every resident has a personal care plan, written with them and their family and reviewed regularly, so their care keeps pace as their needs change.
We also care for adults over the age of 30 living with neurological conditions, including Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and epilepsy, and for people with spinal injuries, with a dedicated team providing 24-hour nursing. For residents living with dementia, familiar things matter. We keep to the routines people know, and encourage families to bring in photographs and belongings so their room feels like theirs.
Residents choose how they spend their day. There’s a relaxing courtyard, sensory gardens and the refreshed lounges, where people gather for a film or the sport on the widescreen TV, for visiting entertainers, or for afternoon tea with family and friends. The salon is popular for a manicure or a blow-dry, and Hingham’s churches, parks, green spaces and independent shops are all close by.
Quiz nights, arts and crafts, musical afternoons and garden parties are regulars on the calendar, with barbecues in the gardens in warmer weather. We also work with Myley, a tour company that runs accessible day trips for people of all ages and abilities, so there are outings beyond the home too. Family and friends are welcome any time.
Mealtimes are an important part of the day at Hassingham House. We work with apetito, a leading provider of meals for care homes, whose recipes are developed by chefs, dietitians and nutritionists. Menus are developed with our residents, balancing favourites and seasonal variety, and we cater for texture-modified, diabetic and other dietary needs. Our bright dining rooms overlook the gardens, and in summer meals move outdoors to the courtyard.

By far the best care facility in Norfolk! My Dad has been a resident here for the past 4 years and I can't honestly think of a better place for him.
Moving into a care home is a big step, and we take it at your pace. Before anyone moves in, we meet them and their family to understand their nursing care, medical and personal needs, working with any healthcare professionals already involved, and use this to put a personal care plan in place.
People come to us in different ways: some directly, some through a hospital discharge team or social services, and some after a short respite stay. Whichever route, we talk through funding and the options openly, and our Advice Centre explains how care funding works.
We encourage residents and families to visit first, to look around the rooms and communal areas, meet the team and ask anything they like.
Rooms aren’t always available at short notice, so it’s worth getting in touch early if you think you may need one. Call the team at Hassingham House and we can talk you through availability and arrange a tour.
Enrichment and fun is essential at every age, and we continually develop new calendars of events, visiting entertainers and group activities – while ensuring reach resident has autonomy over the types of events they’d like to join in with, and days when they would prefer to relax with a good book in the courtyard or their room.
All activities are fully supported by our experienced care teams and nursing staff, removing any barriers to participation. Popular options include cinema evenings, flower arranging, parties to mark special occasions, watching live musicians and speakers, heading to the shops for a spot of retail therapy, or lending a hand in our sensory gardens to keep our plants and beds looking great.
Hassingham House has a fast, on-demand internet connection for residents who like to chat or play games online and an active resident’s association that helps us try new ideas, listen to suggestions or requests, and keep updating the entertainment we organise.
Whether here in the care centre or during a day trip to the attractions and coastlines around Norfolk, we cater to individual personalities, mixing one-on-one and group events based on the resident’s care needs and wishes. Our care teams also ensure residents can continue to follow their religion or faith and can accompany individuals to ceremonies or services or provide access to virtual broadcasts where required.

Our medical, lifestyle and accommodation facilities adhere to our exacting standards, with 24/7 nursing cover and a team of carers and visiting therapists. Each room within the care centre has its own call system, with the assurance that a capable and friendly carer or nurse is always available at any time of day or night.
During each day, our care teams offer help with personal care needs such as washing and dressing, personalised help with medications and rehabilitation, sensitive assistance with visiting the bathroom, and care support such as skin integrity care.
As specialists in nursing care for adults of all ages, including those in later life or living with physical disabilities, we have all the requisite knowledge and experience to deliver complete support and lifestyle programmes. Our dementia care facilities are also designed to provide the best possible quality of life and continuity of care for residents with conditions such as dementia and Alzheimer’s.
Visiting healthcare professionals supplement the around-the-clock nursing and care we provide, including a dentist, an optician, occupational therapists, a chiropodist and a physiotherapist, alongside GP cover to ensure any changes in a resident’s well-being or health are swiftly recorded and managed.
