Here at The Grange Care Centre, prospective residents and families looking for kind, caring, and welcoming nursing support in a tranquil residential setting frequently ask about what our residents do on an average day and how we blend nursing, practical help, and personal care services with entertainment, enrichment, and activities.
What to Expect From an Outstanding Residential Care Centre
We receive countless comments once families have the opportunity to visit their loved one or attend one of our guided tours about how the centre is upbeat, friendly, and active, with no end of things happening, from arts and crafts to garden parties, movie nights to visiting performers.
To help showcase what you or your relative might anticipate from life as part of The Grange community, we thought it would be helpful to create an illustration of what a typical day might involve and explain how our incredible care teams and activities staff ensure residents do more of the things they love.
Catering and Morning Routines in Our Private Oxfordshire Nursing Care Setting
Meals are often a focal point, and we are fortunate to have a specialist catering partner with expertise in the care sector – which means we use care planning to specify what each resident likes to eat, the flavours and textures they most enjoy, and anything they’d prefer we not serve during meals and snacks.
Likewise, we create detailed, personalised plans to record every detail about nutritional requirements, ensuring that residents have customised catering, whether they need to manage sugar or salt intake, have allergies or intolerances, or need extra help when eating and drinking.
For most residents, mornings start at around 7 a.m., although those who prefer to wake later or spend the first part of the day listening to the birdsong in the gardens or reading quietly in their rooms are very welcome to do so.
We’ll pop in to assist with dressing, teeth cleaning, washing, and choosing an outfit, check on the well-being of residents, ensure that everybody has had a good, restful night’s sleep, and discuss the plan for the day or any expected visitors or trips.
Breakfast is served in our comfy dining area, with our care teams on hand to help with pouring juice, providing medication, supporting residents with mobility or feeding needs, and making sure everybody is well-fed, happy, and ready for the day ahead.
Morning Activities at The Grange Nursing Care Centre
After breakfast, we’ll usually set aside time for activities, and all residents are encouraged to participate. Provisions are made for everybody with accessibility needs, ensuring we come together as a community and respect individual wishes and abilities. Depending on the day and the weather, morning group-based activities might include:
- Handicrafts and flower arranging or an art workshop.
- Helping out in the garden, keeping our beautiful shrubs and flowers looking their best.
- Joining in with gentle exercise or seated dance routines.
If residents are less keen to participate, they can watch and enjoy the fun, or they can retire to one of our quiet reading nooks or the privacy of their room to catch up on their favourite book, watch a TV series or movie, play video games, or message their loved ones using our always-available internet connection.
When the weather is warm and sunny, we’ll look at the best ways to get outdoors and enjoy the fresh air, appreciating how important nature is to our well-being.
Visiting therapists often plan to be with us between mealtimes, and some nursing care centre residents like to pamper themselves with a cut and style at our in-house beauty salon and barber, while others spend time with our physiotherapists working on mobility, coordination, balance, and speech.
Lunches and Afternoon Residential Care Centre Routines
At lunchtime, we’ll serve the menu of the day, often on the sun-soaked terrace in the spring and summer or in the dining room during autumn and winter. Again, we’ll focus on tasty, nutritious, and nourishing meals alongside snacks for anybody who gets peckish in between.
Following lunch, residents may have visitors coming to spend some time with them, want to head out to the shops for some retail therapy or come along with a group to the local cinema or high street to see the latest releases.
Being in the wonderful market town of Faringdon, our nursing care centre is within a short distance of historic sites and churches, independent shops and the green outdoor spaces which Oxfordshire is known for, while offering comprehensive facilities on-site.
Shopping trips are always popular, although if the day before was rather busy and energetic we’ll look to organise something more relaxing, providing a balance of entertainment with the rest and peace residents need.
If a big sports match or event is happening, we’ll broadcast it in our comfortable communal living room, with a widescreen TV to ensure that residents can immerse themselves in the experience, whether a royal visit, a football or rugby match, a tennis championship, or the final of a much-loved quiz show.
Our activities coordinator works tirelessly to offer varied options to suit all tastes and hobbies and can always organise an impromptu game or quiz, set up art supplies or help residents move around the centre.
Evening Meals and Entertainment for Residents at The Grange
As the afternoon winds down, our catering teams will be hard at work preparing dinner, of course, followed by a tasty dessert or fresh fruit. We continue to support residents throughout the day with visiting the bathroom, taking medications and being assured of companionship and company throughout.
Summer evening dining can be al fresco or within the dining area, and many residents like to spend the evening either watching a visiting speaker or relaxing in front of a good movie, with a huge library of popular favourites, from period classics to the latest blockbuster releases.
For those who wish to relax in their own rooms or have a soothing bath before heading to bed, our care teams will help as and where assistance is needed and wanted, with a focus on kindness, respect, and dignity when delivering nursing care.
Other residents prefer to stay up later perhaps playing cards, sharing stories or crafting, but as with every aspect of life at The Grange, individual preferences are a priority, and we do everything possible to ensure each resident is happy, valued, and content.
If you’d like to learn more about day-to-day routines, events, entertainment, and activities or would like to visit us in person to explore our facilities and grounds, you are very welcome to get in touch.
