Understanding the Support Available With Nursing Care Costs
Nursing home fees vary depending on the extra support a person may need with daily living, the extent of medical care they require to remain fit and support their physical well-being, and whether a short or long-term stay is essential to sustain a resident’s health or recovery.
In most cases, the cost of care in a fully-equipped nursing care centre is higher than in a residential care home due to the need to have on-site nursing staff available around the clock – with specially trained carers who can assist with tasks such as treating wounds, managing a medical condition, or providing palliative care and respite care to help family caregivers.
Many families are eligible for NHS-funded nursing care or financial assistance from their local council, normally following a needs assessment completed by the local authority. The NHS pays for or subsidised nursing care where a person does not qualify for NHS continuing healthcare support but requires ongoing care from a registered nurse.If you are able to access NHS-funded nursing care, this can be used to cover various costs, paid at a flat rate per week.
